GBA - badania żywności - GMO

At GBA POLSKA, we perform tests to detect the presence of GMOs in food and feed products using the real time PCR method. This technique is characterised by high sensitivity and specificity, allowing the detection of trace amounts of modified genetic material in the sample tested (at the level of 0.1%).

Screening for the detection of specific sequences:

TERMINATOR NOS, DNA FRAGMENT FROM AGROBACTERIUM TUMEFACIENS;
FMV PROMOTER, A PROMOTER FRAGMENT FROM LEPIDOPTERAN MOSAIC VIRUS;
BAR GENE FROM STREPTOMYCES HYDROSCOPICUS ENCODING PHOSPHINOTHRICIN ACETYLTRANSFERASE.

GMOs, or genetically modified organisms, are organisms whose genome has been inoculated with a DNA fragment from another organism responsible for a given trait, or whose genes have been modified, or whose genes have been completely removed from their organism.

Plants are the most frequently subjected to genetic modification. The changes made to their genome are mainly aimed at making plants resistant to herbicides, pests, diseases and environmental factors such as soil salinity.

In the case of animals, modifications to the genetic material mainly result in their faster growth, production of a desired substance, resistance to disease or higher milk yield. In December 2012. The Polish Parliament adopted a position that bans the cultivation of GMO varieties in Poland. The marketing of GMO seeds and publicly available food and animal feed products that contain them is allowed, but is subject to control.
